Us humans enjoy some positive reinforcement too, right? My reward for walking Maci each month comes in the form of adorable stickers and classic certificates! I "earn" them by tracking our walks and participating in the AKC Fit Dog program in conjunction with Sassafras Patterdale's Introvert Circus AKC Fit Dog Club.
The AKC Fit Dog Program is an initiative by the American Kennel Club (AKC) designed to encourage dog owners to engage in regular physical activity with their dogs for better health and wellness. One popular aspect of the program is the Fit Dog Walks, which are group walks or community events that promote fitness and socialization for both dogs and their owners. Additionally, the AKC offers Fit Dog Titles to recognize your commitment to regular exercise. These titles are earned by logging your walks and meeting specific distance or time requirements.
Fit Dog Title Levels:
Bronze: Walk 150 miles.
Silver: Walk 300 miles.
Gold: Walk 450 miles.
While joining an AKC Fit Dog Club isn’t required to earn AKC titles, being part of a virtual club like Sassafras’ Introvert Circus or a local club can provide community engagment and fulfills the group fitness walks category. Sassafras, an AKC Fit Dog expert and authorized approver of group walk applications, adds an extra layer of fun to the experience. By participating in the Introvert Circus club walks, you’ll receive a unique sticker each month you complete a 5K (or five miles which is what we choose to do). It’s exciting to see the designs for the upcoming month’s stickers, which are shared through social media posts.
